New Creative Campaign Takes Aim at Age and Race-Related Voting Gaps on Eve of Historic Election Through Celeb Voices Liza Koshy, Khalid, Gaten Matarazzo, Becky G and more

(Washington, DC): Today, When We All Vote, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization launched by Michelle Obama in 2018, announced Vote Loud, a new initiative to rally participation among young voters in the most important presidential election of our lifetime.

During the 2016 presidential election, 43% of eligible voters, nearly 100 million people, did not vote. Let that sink in. Statistically, young voters and marginalized communities face the highest barriers to voting, and whether through active voter suppression or lack of information, they often aren’t able to make their voices heard.

“We’ve got to do a better job of speaking directly to the motivations and unique challenges that young and first-time voters face around voting,” Michelle Obama, When We All Vote Co-Chair said. “That’s a big part of the reason why I created When We All Vote—to spark important conversations, share critical resources, and make sure people get registered and get out to vote. It’s up to all of us to encourage and work with the next generation to really change the culture around voting.”

Vote Loud creates momentum for When We All Vote and its efforts to help tackle barriers unique to young voters and create currency for the 2020 election. To do this, the campaign will engage young and marginalized voters (specifically Black, Indigenous, and people of color voters ages 18-24) where they are, with strategic placements of a number of films and user-friendly voter resources. Select brand partners are lending their support to this effort including Gucci Changemakers, WarnerMedia, and Houseparty which is launching a new game called Pick Me! to get users excited about voting.

The campaign features activations in all touchpoints from social and online video to out-of-home, leveraging the voices of trusted celebrity voices like When We All Vote Co-Chair Liza Koshy, Gaten Matarazzo, Becky G, Khalid and more, discussing issues relevant to the campaign’s target demographic, such as the environment, racial equality and education.

“This generation of American voters has the power to shape our democracy for the unforeseeable future. We are committed to reaching young people where they are to remind them of the power of their voice,” said Stephanie Young, When We All Vote Chief Officer of Communications and Culture.

Vote Loud was developed by the Creative Alliance and Anomaly for When We All Vote. Creative Alliance is a coalition of creative and communication experts, platforms, and influencers who donated their time and talent to develop this high-impact campaign that will speak directly to young voters through compelling video and digital content. What’s more, all video content was filmed through remote production due to COVID restrictions—showing how scrappy and innovative these teams have been to tackle a timely issue.

Take the first step today by visiting whenweallvote.org/voteloud to register to vote or make a plan to vote. The process will depend on the state you are registering in, but no fear—there’s customized state-by-state info available to help make registration simple, no matter where you live.

And it doesn’t end there: once you’re registered, help us spread the word. Make sure folks in your community know their rights and are prepared to vote by mail this year, or vote early in-person. Because when we all vote, we can create a better tomorrow.
