GEN Z’S MEGAPHONE
Pass the Mic is a national campaign to engage the next generation of voters. Over the next five years, we will reach one million young people and create meaningful opportunities for them to share the issues that matter most. We are building one of the most comprehensive views of Gen Z’s priorities to date, shaping how we show up, organize, and take action.
Gen Z deserves more than a political process that talks at them.
That’s why we are building something different — something shaped by real voices and designed to move young people to action.
And that starts the way all good things do:
with listening.
THE RESEARCH POWERING THIS WORK
At the center of Pass the Mic is first-of-its-kind research capturing what young people care about in their own words.
Our national research survey provided early insights into what issues are top of mind for young people: gun safety, the economy, healthcare, abortion, and the environment.
In 2024, 40 million Gen Zers were eligible to vote.
Together, we can change that.

1. About Pass the Mic
In 2024, 90 million eligible voters did not make their voices heard in the presidential election — 40 times the margin of victory. While more than 40 million Gen Z'ers were eligible to vote, more than 21 million young people left their futures up to others to decide. Nearly a third of young people have little confidence that today’s democracy is functioning well or can address the country’s needs.
Rebuilding young people's trust in democracy starts with listening. In 2026, When We All Vote will launch a national, nonpartisan effort to listen to 18-29 year olds across the country and amplify the key issues that matter most. We aim to reach more than 1 million young people over the next five years with a focus on Black and Latino 18-29 year olds.
Participants will be provided with a unique link to a survey (“Listening Campaign Tool”) to use within your communities to identify Gen’s priorities, values, and vision for the future.
