H.E.R. and DJ Cassidy to join When We All Vote’s civic education program My School Votes for a watch party of Netflix’s “We The People” featuring songs by H.E.R., Janelle Monáe, Lin Manuel Miranda, Bebe Rexha, and more
(Washington, D.C.): On Wednesday, September 8th, When We All Vote, founded by Co-Chair Michelle Obama, will host the “We The People” Watch Party with Grammy-winning artist H.E.R. to celebrate back to school and educate young people, educators and parents about civic engagement. Hosted by My School Votes, When We All Vote’s K-12 program, the party will screen Netflix’s “We The People,” a series of songs and animated shorts that reframe the understanding of what government and citizenship mean in a modern world. “We The People” is a feature of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and includes original songs by H.E.R., Bebe Rexha, Janelle Monáe, Lin Manuel Miranda and more. The event will also feature a live set from When We All Vote ambassador DJ Cassidy.
During the party, audience members including students, parents, teachers and supporters will engage with H.E.R., “We The People” creators and other experts to learn more about civic engagement and advocacy, as well as how to take action with When We All Vote.
My School Votes will also launch its fall efforts, including a Civics 101 program to engage high school students in civic education and voter registration. Though many students and educators were not in the school building last school year, thousands of young people and teachers in high schools across the country joined My School Votes in ensuring their communities were registered and ready to vote.

My School Votes is a unique extracurricular program of When We All Vote that offers transformative civic learning, hands-on skill-building, and lifelong empowerment experiences where students learn by doing. My School Votes provides student leaders the opportunity to apply civic lessons to real-world scenarios. Students learn the fundamentals of campaign development and management, connect national issues to the local level and learn how to develop highly effective student-led voter ID and registration campaigns.
