FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ATLANTA, GA– Janelle Monáe and Angela Rye headlined When We All Vote’s voter registration rally yesterday at Spelman College. Over 800 students, faculty and staff of the Atlanta University Center including Morehouse, Spelman and Clark Atlanta University packed Sisters Chapel to register and hear why voting matters.

When We All Vote partnered with The Root on this event and  first time voters and students Nailah Reine Barnes and Julius Harrison McAllister III told the audience of students about why voting in every election is important to them.

Ambassador Angela Rye fired up the crowd with a call to action: To initiate voter registration, people can text “WeAllVote” to 97779. When We All Vote Co-Chair Janelle Monáe delivered an impassioned speech about the unique power of the vote to influence policy change at the local, state and national level.

Volunteers are hosting more than 2000 grassroots events across the country during When We All Vote’s Week of Action, between September 22 – 29. These events have recruited more volunteers, educated and registered voters, and gotten people fired up and ready to vote in every election. Tonight, Mrs. Obama will host her final event at the University of Miami.

When We All Vote is a new national nonpartisan, non-profit organization whose mission is to change the culture around voting and increase participation in this and every election. This initiative was launched by Co-Chairs Michelle Obama, Tom Hanks, Janelle Monáe, Chris Paul, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

In a video, Co-Chair Michelle Obama thanked Atlanta for joining forces with When We All Vote to get every American registered and ready to vote.
