(Philadelphia, PA) On Saturday, June 27, When We All Vote partnered with The Roots for the 13th Annual Roots Picnic, a virtual experience with one call to action: get registered and ready to vote. Hosted by Questlove, Black Thought and When We All Vote, Co-Chair Michelle Obama opened up the virtual festival, which featured performances from some of today’s top artists, including, H.E.R., Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, SZA, Kirk Franklin, Snoh Aalegra, Earthgang, G Herbo, Polo G, D Nice and Musiqsoulchild. More details can be found here. A few highlights of the evening:

  • Over 500,000 people watched the virtual music festival;
  • During the show, When We All Vote volunteers texted and engaged with more than 540,000 eligible voters, exceeding the goal of reaching 500,000;
  • Since announcing the Roots Picnic on June 16th, nearly35,000 people started or completed the voter registration process;
  • An additional 8,000 people started or completed the voter registration process last night; and
  • More than 40,000 people signed up to attend through When We All Vote and nearly 4,000 people took an additional step to sign up to volunteer.

Over the coming weeks, When We All Vote volunteers will continue to engage the over 540,000 eligible voters they reached last night, including those who started the voter registration process to help them complete it and get ready to cast their ballots. 

As the country’s reality continues to change in the wake of the coronavirus’ ongoing impact on individuals and communities, When We All Vote, Michelle Obama’s nonpartisan voting initiative, and The Roots came together to educate and inspire communities to use their voices and vote to make a difference virtually. When We All Vote is on a mission to change the culture around voting, and iconic events like the The Roots Picnic, provide an opportunity to reach voters where they are and ensure they are registered and ready to vote in every election.
